Activity 7: Nazi Antisemitic Legislation 1933 - 9

All of the following laws were passed without any legal opposition because of the 1933 Enabling Act.

25 April 1933

Law Against the Overcrowding of German Schools and Institutions of Higher Learning.  Only 1.5 % of ‘non-Aryans’ were allowed in German schools and universities.

15 September 1935 Nuremberg Laws

The Reich Citizenship Law stated that non-Aryans could not be German citizens.

The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour forbade marriage and sexual relations between Jews and ‘Germans’.
3 March 1936 Jewish doctors barred from practicing medicine in German institutions.
26 April 1938

Decree Regarding the Reporting of Jewish Property .  Every Jew had to assess and report the value of their property.

17 August 1938  

Second Decree for the Implementation of the Law Regarding Changes of Family Names and Given Names.  Jews were forbidden to take ‘Aryan’ names.  All Jewish men had to add ‘Israel’ to their names.  All Jewish women had to add ‘Sarah’ to their names.
