Dictatorship v Democracy

Some definitions:

Dictatorship = A society ruled by the absolute authority of one individual

Democracy = A form of government in which the supreme power is held by the people collectively and is administered by them or by representatives appointed by them.

Facts:

Nazi Germany in the 1930s- 40s was a form of dictatorship.

Britain today has a form of democracy.

Your task

  • From what you have learned from this section (and other sections if you have worked through them – especially Section 2 An Enquiry into Fascism ) discuss what you understand to be the differences between a dictatorship and a democracy.
  • Create a wall chart for your classroom to show the differences between a democracy and a dictatorship.
