When asylum seekers arrive in Britain today they are detained in ‘reception centres’ whilst their application is being processed.

Legal papers can be issued without needing people to be held in closed reception centres.

 
To keep them away from other citizens.
 

 
There is lots of space in this country for people to live in.
 

 
So the government can process their identification and legal papers.
 

 
In a multicultural society all people should mix – citizens, refugees and visitors.
 

 
So the government can find them somewhere to live.
 

 
They have fled persecution so should not be made to feel like criminals here.
