Let’s start with definitions:

 
Civic = referring to a city, town or a citizen

Citizen = an inhabitant of a city or town; a member of a state.

Citizenship = being a citizen; having rights and duties of a citizen.
 

Now some thinking....
 
What are your rights? What are your responsibilities?

Consider this dilemma:


Imagine you see a teenager being beaten in the street by a gang.  Do you have the right to try to stop the beating?  Do you have a responsibility to try to stop the beating?
 

In society, we all have rights and responsibilities:  legal, moral and human ones.

In this section, we will consider what our rights and responsibilities are today and what they should be. 

We will look at examples from Nazi Germany and Nazi Occupied Europe to see how rights were taken away from some groups of people.  We will consider how some people took their moral responsibilities seriously and how others didn't.

By talking and learning about what people did in the past, we can understand ourselves more deeply and help ourselves make the right decisions when faced with dilemmas in society today.
