Activity 2: Leaving Home

The Jews who fled from Germany before the war did so in many different ways.  Look at these two pictures then discuss the questions that follow.

• What do you learn from these images about ways in which people fled?
• Why do you think some of the children in the first image appear so happy?
• What does image 2 suggest about the lengths people were prepared to go to in order to escape Nazi persecution?  Can you understand being prepared to do this?
• Do you think anyone ever leaves their homeland easily?  Give reasons for your answer.
